How hypnotherapy can boost your sex life

Birds do it... bees do it... etc.

Yet we don’t really like to talk about it.

Especially if there is a problem or issue with.... (whisper it) sex! However at some point most people will have a difficulty regarding sex that will prevent the individual, the couple or the group from enjoying the experience.

Data from the most recent national survey in Britain, revealed 42% of men and 51% of women reported having at least one sexual problem which lasted three months or more in the past year, ranging from a lack of interest in sex to pain during sex and difficulties climaxing. Though the study is quite old now, another is underway. It is always recommended that someone seeks medical advice to check for any physical issues.

In many cases, issues are a result of an underlying psychological issue. Often this is triggered or exacerbated by stress, anxiety, or fear. Low confidence and self-esteem also significantly impacts many people’s enjoyment of sex.

Often there are complex issues and mixed emotions around sex resulting from past feelings of guilt for people that people that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+). The anxiety and stress of coming out and the difficulty in being your true self can have a significant impact on sex.

There is still a sense of shame for many people. Matthew Todd wrote about this in his book Straight Jacket: Overcoming Society's Legacy of Gay Shame (and you can watch my chat with Matthew as part of the Mind Your Head campaign here). Hypnotherapy can be a highly effective way of dealing with many of these issues and allow you to fully enjoy a happy and healthy sex life.

Hypnotherapy can help with sexual problems, issues and difficulties. This makes sense as the physical act of sex is directly linked with our thoughts and emotions - both consciously and unconsciously. Many sexual problems are created and influenced by our emotions and our state of mind. Tension, tiredness, trauma, anxiety, guilt, fear, stress, phobias and bad experiences can all have an adverse effect on sexual performance, drive or enjoyment.

Types of issues around sex:

  • Inhibited Sexual Desire / Low Libido

  • Performance Anxiety

  • Impotence / Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

  • Premature Ejaculation

  • Dyspareunia (painful sex)

  • Vaginismus

  • Sex Addiction: including excessive use of pornography, compulsive masturbation, high-risk sex, anonymous sexual encounters and more.

You will not be the first or only person to have experienced whatever it is that has become a problem for you. There are solutions and many tools and techniques that can make a big difference. Accessing therapy for sexual problems or issues is no different to accessing therapy for any other type of issue. First and foremost, all sessions are completely confidential. Ahead of any sessions, we have a chat about what is involved, I provide all the details you need to know and give you an opportunity for any questions or queries. Then in each session we have an open and honest conversation.

Many people are apprehensive when talking about sex, and we take our time to find your level of comfort. Many people find online hypnotherapy a more relaxed experience. I have found that having an opportunity to have an open and honest chat is extremely therapeutic in itself. We work through what you would like to achieve, talk about how you would like to feel etc. We then use hypnosis to work on this at an unconscious level, working through any barriers that may be preventing you from enjoying sex.

Hypnotherapy tends to work quickly and you may achieve significant results in just a few sessions which can result in a permanent improvement. Many people experience freedom from past anxiety, shame, and guilt surrounding their sexual problem or sexual issue. Clients often notice a significant boost in their self-confidence generally and a greater sense of overall positivity.
