'I am excited' - A quick way to help with nerves

A video providing a quick tip for those with anxiety over an upcoming event has gone viral. It shows how to quickly reframe the nervous feeling as excitement.


Mollie Trainor is currently working towards her masters degree in psychology from the University of Edinburgh. The TokTok video has gone viral and has since been viewed more than 1.3m times.


But is it that simple? Can just saying out loud 'I am excited', reframe your nervousness. The only way to find out is to try it. It has certainly worked for me in the past, and I know it has helped many other people. Such a simple technique can make a big difference.


This works well for pre performance anxiety. So if you have a presentation at work, a speech to give etc, give it a go. For other types of anxiety, other tools and techniques may be required and hypnotherapy really does help!

This anxious reappraisal works because both nervousness and excitement are very similar “high-arousal” states. Your heart beats faster, cortisol rises, and the body prepares you for action. The big difference is simply in the perception of each emotion, with nervousness a negative emotion and excitement is a positive emotion.


This simply technique focuses on the positive.
